Carolyn Nolan
I joined the Caloundra Community Centre Management Committee after I retired from the position of CCC Manager because I wanted to reconnect with the place where I had invested so much of my life and that I loved so much.
Because of my interest in community development and the important role unfunded Neighbourhood Centres and Volunteer Committee’s play in encouraging, maintaining and building local citizen participation I joined the Sunshine Coast Coalition of Community Boards around 2017.
I see the role that the Coalition plays in offering training and supports as vital in the building of local community infrastructure. I love the idea that small community groups are consulted on their training needs and that the training is built from the voices of local people. This gives them opportunity to identify and shape the delivery they expect and provide the critique and evaluation of the training they receive.

“The Mooloolah public hall had a completely new executive committee elected in 2022 and with the departure of the old committee, years of accumulated knowledge was lost. Not long after the newly elected committee took over, the Secretary, Treasurer, and President attended a workshop facilitated by the COCB. This workshop on the roles and responsibilities of the management committee, was invaluable to our new committee and to the efficient running of the Mooloolah Public Hall and has guided our practice as we have settled into our roles and responsibilities
Not only was the workshop a great learning experience, but it provided a fantastic opportunity for networking with other organisations and key contacts who have since proven to be a useful source of information. We have continued to seek out the advice and expertise of the COCB as we have grown into more confident committee.”
